Bachelor Of Technology (B.Tech)

In India, Bachelor of Technology degree is a professional engineering undergraduate degree awarded after completion of four years of academic study in engineering field. It is offered in many disciplines .

In simple words, we can say that “B.Tech is that UG course after which you can become an engineer”.

Bachelor of Technology is also known as Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) in many institutions. Study curriculum is same for both B.Tech and B.E. so don’t be confused in names.

The term engineering comes from Latin word Ingenium means ‘Cleverness and Ingeniare means ‘to create’.

What designation will be provided after B.Tech?

One who have successfully completed B.Tech degree in any of its discipline will be designated as “Engineer”. If you are specialized in computer science and engineering then, your job title will be ‘Software Engineer‘, those specialized in civil engineering will be titled as “Civil Engineer”.


The Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) is the 4 year full-time undergraduate course leading to the engineering degree. The duration of undergraduate engineering course varies from country to country. Many colleges/Universities of India offers B.Tech programme in various disciplines.

After B.Tech what can I do? – This is the question comes in everyone mind who is either pursuing B.Tech or is going to pursue B.Tech.

If you are interested to study more in this field then you can go for higher studies. You have the option to purse M.Tech after B.Tech. Master of Technology (M.Tech) is the advancement in this field through which you are particularly specialized in one area. Some candidates also choose MBA after B.Tech. One can also opt teaching field and become professor after M.Tech.

Candidates can also pursue higher studies along with job. They can pursue courses in distance mode as many Universities in India offers distance education. It will not adds value to your academic qualification but also helps you to secure good position in an organization.

After M.Tech, one can also enter in research field by pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in related discipline.

In this field, salary completely depends upon experience. once you gain experience, salary is beyond expectation.

Starting salary of an engineering graduate will be Rs 20,000 to 30,000 per month. After earning experience, you may get the handsome salary in this field. Remuneration of an experienced graduates will be 5 lacs to 10+ lacs per annum depending upon organization you are working for.
